You can now specify a custom date/time format in your blog translation document. This is useful if your blog server is based in a location where the regional setting are different from your home location ( Example : Server based in USA but home location is Ireland. ).

As the Date/Time format is part of the translation document you also have the ability to show the correct date/time format to your visitor based on their web browsers regional settings. So if you have a German translation document you can set the custom date format to DD.MM.YY so visitors from germany will see a date format that they are used to while visitors from the USA will see MM/DD/YYYY.

You can now specify a username and password in each User Profile document so when you log in via the API it will know who you are able be able to set the Entry Author name and default location correctly.

The API has also been customized to look for a 'Location' in the request XML. if it finds a location it will use it instead of the default location from the user profile. This feature has been added specifically for BBMetaBlog by Jason Hook.

An issue with the way dates are converted to the correct format for RSS feeds has been discovered. To correct the issue all RSS dates are now converted to GMT and it is up to the RSS reader to do the correct conversion to the local timezone.

Edit : Replaced the new lightbox with a better version
Edit : Removed protoType and Scriptaculous libraries and replaced with MooTools Library ( smaller )

Calendar Sideblock

It's taken a bit of extra time but the final part of 3.0.1 Beta 6 is now ready and is visible here in the sidebar of this blog.  It's the all new calendar sideblock.

Blogsphere V1 & V2 also had a calendar sideblock but it worked very differently from the new version. In the old version a calendar document with the pregenerated html code was created everytime a blog entry was saved.  This added extra time onto the end of the save routines and it could be noticed when you blog started getting lots of entries that it took longer and longer to process the calendar document.

In BlogSphere V3 I decided to rewrite the calendar sideblock and turn it into a dynamically generated sideblock that would be generated on the fly when a user visits your site.  This adds some immediate benefits such as being able to translate the calendar headings into the language of the visiting browser and also being able to generate calendars for previous months.

Using the ProtoType Javascript library that is already used by BlogSphere for the Web Poll function I then decided that it would be better to make the calendar into an AJAX calendar so that the page can load and display to the user while the calendar is being generated by the server.  This means I can also have forward and back buttons on the calendar to view other months without having to reload the entire page.

Check it out, I think you'll like it :-)
